POLLINATION ENHANCEMENT

POLLINATION ENHANCEMENT

What is pollination enhancement?

Controlled pollination, or pollination enhancement is simply pollination with human intervention. The purpose is to improve the effectiveness of honeybee colonies, and other natural pollination; and to correct factors limiting pollination such as poor pollinizer overlap, light return bloom on pollinizers, poor bee activity, unfavorable weather conditions among other factors.

Controlled pollination boosts pollen density and quality in the orchard, increases the germination rate and vigor of the pollen, and improves fruit/nut set and crop load.

How does pollination enhancement work?

Pollen is harvested from flowers of healthy trees and separated from its anther sac. A nutritional carrier is then added prior to application.

Pollen application can work in two ways.

Pollen can be put on the doorstep of honeybee hives, so bees pick it up as they leave to pollinate blooming trees. This is a more efficient, lower-cost way to use the product. But growers give up some control because the bees go where they want.

Pollen can also be blown into blooming trees. This gives the grower more control over the timing of pollination, increases bee activity in the block in question and allows the grower to have more control over the specific trees or block where the pollen is applied.

Personal customer support from knowledgeable field representatives.

You can talk with one of our field representatives by phone 24/7 during the pollination season, or
arrange a visit to your orchard if desired. Rental application units are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
